Grant and Donor Project Audit in Ukraine

Grant and donor project audit is an independent verification of how grant funds were used, required by most international donors. MK Audit has been auditing donor-funded projects in Ukraine since 1994, including projects financed by UN agencies, USAID and the Global Fund.

Who needs a grant audit

A grant audit is usually required by the grant agreement or by the donor’s policy. We most often work with:

  • Ukrainian NGOs and charitable foundations implementing grants from the EU, UN agencies, European government donors (GIZ, SDC, Sida), embassies and international foundations;
  • non-profit organizations that need an annual institutional audit;
  • implementers of international technical assistance projects in Ukraine;
  • local offices reporting to international headquarters on the use of designated funding.

What we verify

  • use of funds in line with the approved project budget;
  • completeness and quality of supporting documents (contracts, invoices, bank statements);
  • compliance with the donor’s procurement procedures;
  • payroll and taxation of the project team under Ukrainian law;
  • foreign currency accounting and exchange differences;
  • compliance of bookkeeping with Ukrainian legislation and the grant agreement.

Deliverables

Depending on the donor’s requirements we issue:

  • an audit report on the project’s financial statements under International Standards on Auditing (ISA 800/805);
  • a report of factual findings under agreed-upon procedures (ISRS 4400) — the format most frequently requested by international donors;
  • a management letter with recommendations.

All reports are available in English and Ukrainian.

How it works
