A grant audit is a bespoke service: the scope of the auditor’s work depends on the specific project, so the price is always calculated individually. A cheap “hourly rate” without reviewing the documents usually means a superficial check that the donor may not accept.
What the cost of a grant audit depends on
- the size of the project budget — the larger the budget and the number of expense lines, the more transactions need to be checked;
- the number of transactions and source documents — the main driver of labour intensity;
- the length of the grant period — auditing a one-year project is cheaper than auditing a three-year programme;
- the report format the donor requires — agreed-upon procedures (ISRS 4400) or a full audit of financial statements (ISA 800);
- the language of the report — whether a report in English is needed;
- the state of the accounting records — if the records contain errors, extra time is needed to restore the documents.

We review the grant agreement, the budget and the project’s financial report, assess the number of transactions and the donor’s requirements — and fix the price in a commercial proposal. The price is agreed in advance and does not change during the engagement unless the scope of work changes.
